About
Living History
On February 15th, 1980 I was born in San Jose, California and given the middle name of Bradbury, I go by Brad. I went to the Pink Elephant school on Blossom Hill for Pre-school then Schallenberger Elementary. In the 5th grade I transferred schools and for one year I attended Hacienda Elementary and continued on to John Muir Middle School. For high school I followed my sister and attended Abraham Lincoln High School.
During high school I found my love of computers, technology and building sets for performances. My love for technology allowed me to work NASA Ames Research Center as part of a team of eight Lincoln students. I was fortunate enough from that point to work for the Institute of Research and Learning (IRL) and get involved in The Digital Clubhouse Network (DCN) where I served for two years as the CFO, during which I met Sean Griffin. Sean and team started StudioFX a web development house that I worked at for the summers in ‘98 and ‘99.
In 1997 I started my own company, Shark Media, and have been running it since. Shark Media provides services including: web development, web design, video production and editing and print layout.
In 1998 I left San Jose, CA for Pomona, CA and started my quest for a Management and Human Resources degree at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. During my first year of college I joined the Kappa Psi Chapter of Pi Kappa Alpha as part of the Beta Pledge class and went on to serve as Community Service Chair and Brotherhood Chair.
After college I went on a backpacking trip to Europe during the 100 year floods. I was able to visit 8 countries within 8 weeks of traveling alone using a EuroRail pass.
Returning to San Jose, I worked several odd jobs including remodeling a Michael’s Store before going to work for Los Alamitos Elementary as the computer teacher for K-5th grade students. I was also a key member of the team that transitioned all schools to a web based version of Accelerated Reader and participated and developed training for teachers throughout the district.
In 2005 my good friend Sean Griffin and his wife Kristen enticed me to move to Tulsa, OK and I took them up on it and been living in Tulsa, OK since, much to the amazement of my entire family who live in California. In 2006 I started working for BTC Broadband in Bixby, OK and continue today as their web developer.
Soon I am going to be the first grandchild in my family to own a home.
Technology
In 1999 I picked up a PHP4 book and started to design database driven websites and have been using PHP ever since. In 2007 I became a PHP5 Zend Certified Engineer. I have been using the jQuery JavaScript framework since it was in beta and have given several talks to local groups on how to use and extend the library.
I also use Ruby on Rails on several projects and co-run the Tulsa.rb User Group.
